I definitely don’t think Helaena cares about the succession. When Aegon came looking for his son to take him to the Small Council meeting Helaena asked, “what if he doesn’t want to be king?” In the book Fire & Blood, where there was a third child, Helaena was forced to choose between the older son, who was the heir, or a younger son. Since the show left out the younger son they played around with the motivations for the choosing. I don’t think Helaena is supposed to care about the typical types of motivations, as they choose to make her a prophetic Targaryen, who exhibits some autistic types of behavior. None of that was in the book.
