Roshi’s whole reason of joining the tournament was to keep Goku and Krillin motivated to keep improving on their martial arts. Now that he fought tien and saw how many techniques he got in the locker, he realised tien can keep them motivated forever regardless of the outcome of the tournament. Also tien is younger so their rivalry will go on for years n years while roshi can finally retire in peace. Only reason he even came out of retirement was for his students.

You keep saying Tien should be disqualified but..why? He hasn't done anything against the rules! The tournament has pretty wildly open and vague rules haha

It is so interesting how the names of characters and techniques are in English, I've originally listened to it in Spanish, then in Japanese. Still a great dub. Loving the reactions Suzy, can't wait for DBZ <3

This arc is when it stops being a comedy action show to a full blown action show with some jokes.

Master Roshi wants Tien to have a peaceful strong character truthful master to train him and to stop learning evil from Crane. He sees a lot of potential in Tien and sees he is wasting it away fighting for Crane. He steps down to show Tien humility and true strength.. showing character of the heart. He also has complete faith in his boys Goku and Krillen to not just have the ability to beat Tien but to teach him the correct ways while doing it. (Both Goku and Krillen were taught the true caring of character Turtle Hermit Way)
