No, Master Korin was in fact not certain that Goku would survive. He sent Goku down there because Goku said he's" not scared of dying". That's why Korin said " well, if he's not afraid of death, I suppose he could take a sip".

I do like this version so much better. They do test Goku physically sure but also ethically.

They tried to see if he would take the easy way out and just be with his friends rather than doing the right thing.

It got magical. No complain, I like this Twist 😄 In the Manga, the divine water was a strong Poison, and Goku had to preservere for 24 hours and survive it to get his Upgrade. So this is technically filler, but I find it much more interesting this way. Could also be one of the parts of an Anime which get cut down to being PG in comparison to the original 🤔
