Skip the movies!! You don't need them 😆
So the Dragon Ball movies, there's 4 of them in total. You don't necessarily need to watch them, but it's a nice way to round off this era of the franchise. They're pretty decent, and you get some nostalgia for the early episodes too. But it's your choice girl, don't mind if you choose to watch them later on instead.
So with the movies:

The only movies that function as proper canon parts of the full narrative of Dragon Ball are the Dragon Ball Super movies (you are long long way from this so don’t worry lol)

The movies that cover Dragon Ball function as short retellings/restructurings in movie quality animation and are NOT part of the narrative story.

The Dragon Ball Z movies are more like alternate takes on plot points that happen throughout DBZ, and such are also NOT part of the narrative story. The caveat being that there are two “TV specials” from Z that are technically classified as movies and are absolutely necessary for appropriate viewing for DBZ (again though, you are quite a long way from this stuff as it’s around the middle of DBZ where the specials are important)

All in all, I personally would skip the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z era movies for now and maybe come back to them after DBZ.

Alternatively, someone in your discord could map out a non-spoiler episode viewing list for DBZ, with the movies placed in between episodes where the alternative (not canon) plots and TV specials (canon) plots come in.
When it comes to the movies for OG Dragon Ball, they're basically altered retellings of the story arcs. Regarding the movies for Z, they're no different from filler stories that exist in their own little worlds (i.e. non-canon). So, I say you should watch them at your leisure.
The movies aren't canon nor can they even take place during the main story. They're cool and fun to watch but not necessary. You can binge them after you finish Z if you would like to. And i am sure theres a lot of us who would love to see your reaction to them. But they don't need priority.

Honestly the Dragon Ball movies the first 3 are decent enough BUT they are by no means needed to watch DBZ especially since the DB movies are not in the same continuity as the Dragon Ball TV Show they are re-adaptations of earlier parts of the series.

Many people recommend you watch the Path to Power but honestly as good as that movie is it isn't needed to understand Dragon Ball Z at all.

Really the only Movie you might need to watch in all of Dragon Ball in order to understand something is DBZ Movie 1 but beyond that the others are optional. (Although some are definitely good)

the Path to Power movie is pretty good and I believe you can just go into Z then go back to watch the movies at a later point because some of them are hard to place where they take in canon
The only one you should watch is path to power. Dragon ball movies aren't cannon. Make sure to watch dbz KAI because thw dialogue is cannon and based on the manga. The original dbz dub wasn't cannon they have made up dialogue that was never said in the manga.
This is fun filler, but the fact that Mutaito couldn't beat Piccolo and beat Goku makes it clear that that is exactly what this is. Filler.
Again, still fun.

The DB movies are literally just really loose retelings of the Dragon Ball story and are unnecessary to watch before Z

The movies are absolutely unnecessary though Path to Power is a fun time.

Movies are non canon just like the filler episodes, same for DBZ.

Only movies that are canon are the ones from Dragon Ball Super.

Yeah, just skip them and go straight to DBZ.
Original Dragon Ball movies are just recaping first 3 acts with the different villains. But i recommend you to watch atleast original 13 DBZ movies, also if you watch Original DBZ, not Kai, when there is one arc that is connected to a first DBZ movie.
The dragon Ball movies aren't really canon however Path to power is probably the most enjoyable movie
