I'm cool with the decision you've made regarding 'Z', you do what YOU want to do. I've always enjoyed a lot of it's filler, and I'm sure that you'll have a blast too! All except for one story arc, where they unnecessarily drag it out for too many episodes, but I definitely won't be giving any further details there lol.
You've made the right decision with regards to choosing just DBZ first.
DBZ Kai re-edited gives a VERY big spoiler in the first Episode that it's much better that you don't see right away.
While Kai's english dub is genuinely good probably what I would consider the gold standard for Dragon Ball English Dubs I think you'd definitely do well to watch the OG Anime. There is info you'd need in order to understand DBGT and even some parts of Super (I won't spoil what it is) but honestly you should simply watch DB then DBZ then DBGT then Kai after that and then Dragon Ball Super.
That's the order that it was released in and that's what you should do.

The "fillers" of DBZ were more about world and character building than seperate adventures, so I don't believe there's anything you need to skip
Only reason Id put kai over the original Z airing, especially for dub, is because kai follows the manga much more accurately than the original airing and the kai dub more accurately translates the Japanese than the original Z dub which straight up changed alot, it's not for a speed reason, but it's all your choice

I’m actually really pleased with your decision on the DBZ original vs Kai debate/pissing contest. I second your stance wholeheartedly. You might want to say it extremely slowly and deliberately—stressing every syllable—the next time you’re on the subject, though; it would seem there are some listening-challenged folks in the crowd who aren’t comprehending your words. (Including one very neurotic guy on here who simply WILL NOT shut up about the Kai thing. Good lord.) I’m glad you’re going ahead and putting your foot down on this ridiculously meaningless issue. Yeah, some of us prefer not to fucking sppedrun everything like we’re trying to win an impatience competition. Everybody else can just deal with it.

the only good thing about kai is the visual quality but thats only because it came out in 2010 OG DBZ is better in every other aspect. if people dont like it then dont watch lol its as simple as that
The only two fillers worth watching are “Bardock” and “History of Trunks” only ones relevant to the story.
But those were DBZ movies, not part of the DBZ. And I wholeheartedly agree with you, these are hands down my favorites in the DBZ universe. Most of the DBZ movies don't seem to be canon, like huge changes from the main story, but these two fit very well, and I would consider them canon. Probably my favorite stories in the DBZ universe
I think, all in all, no matter the dub/version, DBZ is DBZ. It’s awesome! Enjoy!
I love the DBZ Filler Episodes - so i think it is great you want to watch the „OG“ DBZ 😁. But maybe watch it in japanese with english subtitles?
what are you talking about? DBZ Funimation with Bruce Faulconer is DBZ, sub DBZ has nothing on it.
You’re right actually 🤔. I do remember loving the Falconer soundtrack. But I think the Japanese soundtrack is, also cheesy, but it’s more memorable and charming. That’s what I think now off the top of my head. But I do remember loving Falconers music. I apologize about that.
anybody that thinks the Jap version is better than English soundtrack is smoking some serious crack! nobody wants to listen to old 80s music while watching intense fighting.
